Mrs. Seledina Whitten, affectionately known as Sally, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio, at the age of 68. Born on September 15, 1957, in Oregon, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of Dora Reyes and Eduardo Garcia Sr.
Sally lived a life rooted in love, faith, and service. She married the love of her life, Walter Whitten Sr., on April 7, 1978. Together they built a family that became her greatest joy and source of strength. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sally was the heart of her family—the one everyone could turn to for comfort and support. Her unwavering loyalty and compassion were constants in the lives of those who knew her.
Throughout her career, Sally worked at Maumee Bay, The Lutheran Home of Mercy, and Holiday Inn Express. She cherished her coworkers and the residents she served with kindness and dedication. Her work was more than a job—it was an extension of her generous spirit.
Sally's Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was deeply committed to her church community and found joy in volunteering and giving back whenever she could. Her faith guided her actions and inspired those around her.
She found happiness in simple pleasures—spending time with family, especially her grandchildren; tending lovingly to her garden; crafting thoughtful gifts for loved ones; and enjoying trips to the casino. Her laughter filled rooms during family gatherings, where she created lasting memories that will be treasured forever. Mrs. Seledina Whitten leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Walter Whitten Sr. of Covington, Georgia; children Oscar Jason Sr. (Maria) Garcia, Walter Whitten Jr. (Melissa), Nellie Jean (Fermin) Rubio, and Diana Jessica Whitten; grandchildren Martha (Chris), Oscar Jr. (Georgia), Angel, Jesse (Priscilla), Benito, Alaynah, Kaden, Juliana, Jackson (Kylie), Anthony, Acelynn, Aliciana, Aliviana, Fermin IV, Audiana, Javier, Elana, Stephanie, and Amayah; great-grandchildren Penelope, Ellieana, Jordan, Jayden, and Airiella, Kinsley; siblings Eduardo Jr., Ediberto, Rita, Ruben, Diana, Tomas, Adam, and Ramon.
She was preceded in death by her father Eduardo Garcia Sr.; grandparents Guadalupe and Roberto Leal; son Thomas Jose Whitten; aunts Delia and Candy; siblings Carlos, Mousie, Carlos and Jose; nephews Adam & Stephanie; along with many other cherished relatives.
Sally's legacy is one of unconditional love and selfless devotion. She touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity. Her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her so dearly.
A Funeral Mass will be held on December 5, 2025, from 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of My. Carmel Catholic Church 1105 Elliston Rd. We will have Sally's Celebration of Life Luncheon after her viewing and Mass. Burial services will be on Monday December 8th, 2025 at 10:00 am in Oakwood Cemetery.
