Ruth Marie Riggsbee

January 18, 1945 - January 2, 2020

Ruth Riggsbee of the late Jack Strayhorn and Pauline Haire was born on January 18, 1945 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and departed this life on January 2, 2020 at home where she was surrounded by family.
She attended Chatham County Schools. She worked at the University of North Carolina for 27 years doing house keeping until her retirement as supervisor of house keeping in 2008.
A strong woman of great faith became a member of Haw River Baptist Church at an early age and later transitioned to Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health declined.
Ruth enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and numerous card games in her free time. She was hardworking and dedicated to her family, the true definition of a "great" mother and grandmother was she.
She was greeted in heaven by her former husband and life long friend Ray Riggsbee and daughter Marion Rochelle Riggsbee.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children W. Barry Riggsbee; Melissa (Mikki) Riggsbee; Hubert (Sin) Riggsbee; Devon Riggsbee also 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends to carry on her legacy.
Words cannot adequately express the gratitude we have for our family and friends who have consoled us during this time of bereavement. Your presence, prayers, love, and many acts of kindness have sustained us. Again we say thank you and may God continue to bless you all.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Julie Monroe (care taker) for the care and love that she provided.
