Rodney Lee Russell was born to the late Arthur D. Russell and Carmellia L. Russell on January 26, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the oldest of four children; Darryl Russell, Michael Russell and Robin Russell-Porter.
Accepting Christ at an early age, Rodney was baptized at St. Phillip's Lutheran Church. He received his education at St. Phillip's Lutheran Private School until the 8th grade. From there, Rodney attended Murray Wright High School, where he graduated. After completing high school, Rodney enlisted in the United States Army-Basic Training. Before his basic training ended, Rodney decided to resign. He decided to work at Ford Motor Company-Wixom Stamping Plant.
In 1982, Rodney met Delores Hines. The two decided to get married in May of 1989. From the union three children were born Candace Hines, Rodney Russell Jr., and Dillian Russell. Throughout the years, Rodney enjoyed spending time with his family, good friends: Tony Davis and Frank Turner, listening to Country & Rock and Roll music, building Model-t cars, riding motorcycles, playing Chess and auto mechanics.
In 2005, Rodney became ill due to a rare blood disease called "Thrombosis." Shortly thereafter, his illness along with diabetes caused both of his legs to be amputated. He also suffered many strokes and heart attacks which caused paralysis on one side of his body. Determined not to let his illness get the best of him, Rodney always cracked jokes.
