Philip Earl Strickland, 74, of Weston, Connecticut, passed away on July 4, 2019. He was born to parents Etta and Earl, on March 28, 1945 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Phil studied Journalism at The University of Maryland and worked as a reporter, opinion columnist and news editor for over 40 years in Washington, DC; Albany, NY; New York, NY; San Bernardino, CA; and Murrieta, CA.
Phil was widely known for his generous, caring and patriotic nature. He was an excellent conversationalist with a wonderful sense of humor. Phil loved movies, television and politics, and spent time covering all three topics professionally. But most of all, Phil loved spending time with his family and spent many hours in his younger days attending his only daughter's band concerts and volleyball games, and visiting his family in Virginia. He also enjoyed growing vegetables and spending time outdoors when he lived in California, prior to his return back east.
Philip is survived by his daughter Lisa, his son-in-law Frank, his mother, Etta, and his brother, Paul. In addition he is also sorely missed by his three grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren and Matthew, his close friend Lorie Olko, his aunt Rava Giguere and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by Earl, his father.
