Oi Kwan Yam

November 13, 1947 - January 13, 2023

林爱群 (Oi Kwan Yam) aged 75 of Chicago, IL, passed away on January 13, 2023. We are deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden and unexpected death.

She was born and raised in Hong Kong from 廣東省中山縣,石岐. She attended Canossa Girls Vocational College and St. Godfrey Vocational School where she graduated secondary school.

She was a loving mother to her daughter, Winnie, wife to predeceased, King Yam, 任敬, and beloved grandmother to Alex and Victoria. She had many occupations and skills in her life. She was a seamstress, licensed chef, bookkeeper, secretary, and business owner.

She absolutely loved traveling, especially to the ceremonies held at Rainbow Temple located in Seattle. She was a devout Buddhist with the True Buddha School. She regularly volunteered at the Ling Sheng Ching Tze Temple located at 1035 W 31st Street, Chicago, IL, 60616. She did everything from assisting with the front desk, annual rituals, ceremonies, even being security for a short period of time. Her most memorable post was preparing and cooking meals at the temple on a weekly basis for the past 20 plus years. She was an active member and made many lifelong friends in this community.

She took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. Teaching Alex and Victoria how to cook and in return, Alex managed to crack inside jokes with his grandmother. She will always be remembered as spirited, feisty, and way beyond independent.

A zoom memorial is in progress, will add in date when finalized.

Flowers are welcomed :) (email wpooh903@gmail.com for address) or can donate to Rainbow Temple (https://tbs-rainbow.org/Donate/Donation)
