Mary Louise Daniels

February 15, 1941 - February 24, 2026

Mary Louise Daniels, born on February 15, 1941, in Cairo, Georgia, to Alf and Elouise Mills, passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of 85. The first of five siblings, she was deeply connected to her family throughout her life. Mary graduated from Cairo High School and became a devoted mother, raising her children and cherishing her role as the family matriarch.

In 1960, she welcomed her first son, Alterrell Mills, followed by five daughters—Tammy, Martha, Itellia, Debra, and Felicia. She moved to New York at age 24, where she built lasting bonds with her aunts and cousins. Mary spent over 30 years working at Holly Patterson Home, where she was known for her dedication and cooking skills, especially her beloved Thanksgiving cornbread dressing.

Mary later returned to Georgia, where she joyfully embraced her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her legacy includes her son Alterrell Mills of Freeport, N.Y., daughter Martha King of Uniondale, N.Y. (Louis), grandchildren Dr. Ayanna Ambrose (Christopher) of Georgia, Alterrell Mills of New York, Lavone Moon of New York, Maurice Rodgers of New York, Malaysia Rodgers of Georgia, Shaletha Teal of Georgia, and Camron King of New York; Siblings: Samuel Mills (Grace) of Albany, Georgia; Martha Nealy of Roosevelt, New York; and Jeffrey Mills (Sophie) of Cairo, Georgia, and Lucretia Mills (sister in law). Nephew, Jeremy Mills; Joseph West; nieces: LaTonia Nealy, Kimberly Mills-Powell, Kathy Nelson, Maria Mills, Jah'Nyia Mills, Crystal Mills, Nickie Thomas, Mary Carter, and Nena West. Along with thirteen great-grandchildren. A woman of strong faith, she often recited scripture, inspiring those around her with her favorite saying, "Put it in God's hands."

The family requests that all flower donations be made through Center View Florist at 516-681-6682.
