Marilynne Elaine Sursely

Marilynne Elaine Sursely

February 14, 1936 - July 24, 2020

Marilynne E. Sursely, 84, a resident of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on July 24th 2020.
She was born on 2/14/1936 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Alfred & Margaret Sursely.
Surviving her is her longtime partner and friend, Darlene O'Bryan, her daughter, Kimberly H. Delano, her 2 grandchildren, John P. Delano and his spouse Nathan Weibley of Chicago Illinois, Christopher O. Delano and his spouse Kelcey Delano of Tampa, Florida. She also had many dear nieces and nephews and additional family members that she loved immensely.
Marilynne was born & raised in Lake City, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Girard High School in Girard Pennsylvania. She moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the late 1950's and resided there for over 20 years.
Starting in the 1960's, she spent a 20+ year career in the evolving field of "Computer Development" where she worked on many different interesting projects. Her proudest honor was to have worked with NASA on the "Apollo 11 Project" in 1969, which put Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin on the Moon. She was proud to have been a part of the successful landing of the Lunar Module. "I can remember as a child, watching that spacecraft land & her holding her breath with tears in her eyes. To say my Mom was out of this world.... is an understatement".
It was the first crewed spacecraft to operate exclusively in the airless vacuum of space, and remains the only crewed vehicle to land anywhere beyond Earth.
After retiring, she traveled and spent time in Hawaii and 3 years in Japan. She loved spending her time among family & cherished friends from all over the world.
She loved sports and bowling was her favorite hobby. She was an avid craftier, painter and dollhouse builder. She loved puzzles, crosswords and she did Sudoku in pen.
She had a wicked sense of humor and was a jokester. She never met a stranger. If you were not laughing when you met her, you were laughing when you left her. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and was always quick to inform anyone of their accomplishments. She is loved & will be missed by all who knew her. RIP I Love You Mom

Due to the Covid-19 crisis a Memorial will be planned at a later date.

Marilynne was always a joy to be around. She opened her home up so I had a place to stay when I visited Disney World. I was 19 and she really didn't know me then but must of thought I was OK! Through the years I would see her on occasion during my visits to Florida. I will miss those funny conversations we had. Your presence will be missed. You smile is forever burned in my memory.
