Leonard Arthur Scarsella

Leonard Arthur Scarsella Sr., of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully during the night of March 24th, 2026. He was 68 years old. His kindness, cheerful smile, and fighting spirit will not be forgotten. <br /> <br /> Leonard was born on October 1st of 1957 to Arthur and Mary Scarsella. He grew up on a farm near Ashtabula, Ohio with his brothers and sisters. He would often fondly reminisce about the horses they tended there: Babe (Black), Tonka (Splotchy), and Charlie (Brown). What he didn't remember so fondly was being attacked by a hive of bees or falling through the ice when crossing a pond during winter. <br /> <br /> At the age of 12 Leonard and his family moved to California. Up until this point Leonard did not have a very easy life growing up. But it only seemed to get harder while he grew up here. He would grow up tough, mean, and fearless over the countless number of fights he endured in his life. Leonard would also come to idolize his big brother Daniel Scarsella (Danny) and his bright future in boxing. He deeply loved Danny and when his brother passed due to a motorcycle accident it left pain that never fully went away. <br /> <br /> As an adult Leonard moved to Oklahoma for a fresh start in life. His luck did not improve much unfortunately. He was married and divorced twice. From each marriage he had a son. One of which he named Daniel Joseph Scarsella after his late brother. Leonard raised Daniel on his own for 14 years until issues from declining health led to him relying on other family members to help. <br /> <br /> Leonard was a man of honor and pride. He did what was right even if it was the hard choice. Even when he didn't have a penny to his name and his home had no heat during the winter, he returned someone's wallet full of money to them by using the ID that was in it. <br /> <br /> Leonard was a fighter. In more ways than his fists. He fought against pain, fatigue, and depression. He fought to make ends meet and be a provider. He never gave up and would never back down. He spent half of his life fighting to be the best father that he could be. <br /> <br /> The most important aspect of Leonard was that he was kind. He helped people who asked him for help the best that he could. He would break into a smile when he talked to people even if they were total strangers. Leonard would have friends almost everywhere that he went. The nurses that cared for him at the nursing home he resided in even nicknamed him "Lenny Penny" because how nice he was. During his life he would also go by the nicknames "Taz" and "Leo". <br />   <br /> Leonard Arthur Scarsella Sr. is survived by his son Daniel Scarsella, his daughter in law Ashley Scarsella, his Granddaughters Stella and Alyssa Scarsella, his brothers William "Bill" Scarsella and Thomas Hannold, and his sisters Norah Griggs and Beatrice Engle. <br /> <br /> In keeping with his wishes, Leonard Scarsella was cremated. His ashes are planned to be scattered back home in Ohio.
