Leon "Sonny" Jackson

January 7, 1947 - July 1, 2020

Leon "Sonny" Jackson, 73, beloved great grandfather, grandfather father, brother and uncle of Evergreen, Alabama, passed away on 01 July 2020. He was born to parents Preston Jackson and Mary Grace Wilson, on 07 January 1947 in Andalusia , Alabama. He graduated from Woodson High School in 1966. <br /> <br /> Leon worked as a Parcel Delivery Driver. After which he retired after 30 years of service from United Parcel Service in 1998. As the first black driver to work for the United Parcel Service in Alabama he was inducted in the company's Hall of Fame for both safe driving and longevity with the company. <br /> <br /> He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an active member of the 2nd Mount Zion Baptist Church choir as well as being a Big Brother to local youth. In addition he supporting multiple local, state and national causes as a distinguished contributor and active supporter. <br /> <br /> Leon is survived by his sons Michael Jerome, Marcus Deundra, Maurice Leon, siblings Betty Hamilton, Mary Robinson, Gloria Ashford and Charles Jackson; Grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Davon Jackson, Marisa Jones, Maurice Jackson, Sierra Jackson and great granddaughter Marley. <br /> <br /> He was preceded in death by his father Preston Jackson, his mother Grace Mary Wilson, brother, James Jackson, sister, Jewell Gaye, and brother Benjamin Butler. <br /> <br /> The grave side service is scheduled for July 9th at 5:00pm at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 902 Fletcher Road, Andalusia, AL. Michael, Marcus, and Maurice Jackson will officiate the ceremony.
