Kevin Charles Maben

Kevin Charles Maben was born January 18, 1965, the first child of William (Bill) and Patricia (Pat) Maben. He was born at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. At the time, the Maben family was living in Mulvane, Kansas. <br /> <br /> Early in Kevin's life, the family moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. His younger brother, Christopher (Chris) was born in May of 1967. <br /> <br /> The family home was near to Kevin's elementary school (Graber), high school (Hutchinson High School) and to Hutchinson Community College (HCC). Kevin's father was a biology professor at HCC. Kevin's mother was a nurse (RN). She worked several positions at nursing homes, hospice and the state of Kansas. <br /> <br /> Kevin was a musician, playing trumpet, piano and mellophone. He loved participating in marching band, which allowed him to transition to one of his great loves— Drum Corps International (DCI). Kevin was a very proud member of the Sky Ryders, a drum corp based in Hutchinson. He marched for the Sky Ryders from 1983 - 1986. Kevin remained involved with DCI, spending a summer as the traveling doctor for the Santa Clara (CA) Vanguard and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Blue Stars. <br /> <br /> Kevin attended HCC, University of North Texas (UNT, Denton, TX) and University of Kansas Medical School (KUMed). He was dedicated academically. He chose to pursue the medical profession to be a pediatrician. He was employed by the University of Kansas Medical Center and in 2007 relocated to New Mexico to join the team at Presbyterian Healthcare Services, in Rio Rancho, a suburb of Albuquerque. <br /> <br /> Kevin learned Spanish and was known at the Kansas University Medical Center as "Dr. Kevin" by Spanish speaking clients in the Kansas City area. His ability to communicate in Spanish spread by word-of-mouth and references. He was a caring doctor and developed amazing relationships with patients, patient families and medical co-workers. <br /> <br /> Kevin always loved the outdoors, especially the mountains and another one of his passions, Puerto Rico. He made multiple trips to the U.S. territory to enjoy the culture, scenery and food! Oh my the FOOD! He was a great foodie, sharing photos of the delicious meals he enjoyed. <br /> <br /> Kevin always wanted to live in the mountains. Albuquerque was not mountainous enough. He moved to Denver, renting an apartment near downtown. He was patient and purchased a townhome in Golden, CO, Genesee Foundation. This area is west of Denver, in the foothills. His home had wonderful views of the Rocky Mountains, the continental divide and a variety of wildlife. Especially the elk herd and mule deer in the community. He would enjoy the bull elk bugling outside of his home's windows during the rut. <br /> <br /> Kevin would work "in clinic" for three weeks in Rio Rancho and would have one week to work remotely from his mountain sanctuary. He would say this allowed him to "re-charge". He loved to host family and friends, introducing them to his favorite restaurants, scenic drives and the beauty of Colorado. <br /> <br /> Kevin touched many lives in many ways. Through music, love of the outdoors, passion for caring for children and enjoying culinary adventures! <br /> <br /> Kevin is survived by his brother Chris and nephew Connor. He has family from Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, New Mexico, Idaho and California. He loved his family and would always support them in all endeavors. <br /> <br /> Kevin is also survived by many friends and colleagues from all the times of his life. From Hutchinson, Denton (TX), Kansas City, Rio Rancho/Albuquerque, Denver, Puerto Rico and DCI enthusiasts across the United States. <br /> <br /> Kevin's legacy will live on through all of the lives he touched.
