Joyce Bender Costigan, 79, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on 1/29/2020. She was born to parents Rev. James L. Bender and Helen K. Spiker-Bender, on 10/28/1940 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania . <br /> <br /> She graduated with honors from Easter Nazarene College in Quincy Massachusetts as an undergraduate. <br /> <br /> She went on to study Social Work at Norfolk State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in LCSW Social Worker Clinical. <br /> <br /> Joyce worked as a Business owner named Newbridges LCSW for 37 years. <br /> <br /> After 37 years of service, She retired from Newbridges in 2016 and continued her practice in her own home. <br /> <br /> Joyce met Don Costigan in 1991. They were married on June 6 1992 in Virginia Beach Virginia. <br /> <br /> Joyce is survived by her husband Donald Costigan, James L. Bender, brother married to the former Patricia Maus of Sayer Pennsylvania .Tonya Hoffman Craig, daughter married to Jamie Craig, David Lee Hoffman, son married to Alice Rebecca Hoffman .Niece, Shari Rossiter. Nephews, James Bender and Jonathon Bender. Grandchildren, Meggan Newburn Jovenal Jamir, Great Grandchildren, Tarren, Lynlee, Chandler. <br /> <br /> She was preceded in death by Rev. James L. Bender, father Helen K. Spiker Bender, mother Rev. David L. Hoffman Sr., husband. <br /> <br /> The family has entrusted Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory with the arrangements. Joyce requested cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
