Edward Leonard Tice

August 24, 1956 - January 5, 2019

Edward "Big Ed" Leonard Tice, age 62 of Effingham, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 5, 2019. Ed was born in Union Beach, NJ on August 24, 1956 to Muriel Arlene Hazleton Tice. He graduated Keyport High School in 1974, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Elvira Zampelle on May 14, 1977. Together, they had 2 sons and settled down in Howell, NJ to raise their children. Ed made a career in the automotive industry, primarily in auto parts sales. He worked for several dealerships and parts distributors for over 30 years. <br /> <br /> Ed loved spending time with his family, especially coaching his boys in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He was also passionate about fast cars and drag racing, and was well known and respected throughout the automotive community. As a driver, he won many races before eventually turning the driving duties over to his sons, sharing his knowledge about cars and serving as their crew chief. Outside of his love for his family and sports, Ed also loved to cook and barbecue, and took pride in watching his family and friends enjoy his culinary creations. Ed will forever be remembered as a kind man with a generous heart. He loved to laugh and would go out of his way to make sure the people with him truly enjoyed their time spent together. <br /> <br /> Ed is survived by Elvira Tice; his two sons, Edward & his wife, Meredith of Howell, NJ and Daniel & his wife, Catrina of Jackson, NJ; his 4 grandchildren, Julia, Jeremy, Emily, and Edward; his sister, Candy Rogers, of Florence, SC; his sister in-law Mary Tice, of Howell, NJ; his beloved in-laws, Jerome and Catherine Zampelle, of Keyport, NJ; several god-children; numerous nieces and nephews from his extended family; and his loving cat, Nattie. <br /> <br /> A memorial service will be held at the Jackson Fire Department, Station 55, 113 North New Prospect Rd, Jackson, NJ 08527 on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 12:00 - 4:00 PM. <br /> <br /> The family would like to thank the entire staff at Carolinas Hospital System and Southern Care Hospice for their professionalism, kind words and comforting care.
