David passed peacefully at Rutland, VT on Wed, May 13, 2020, after a long battle with pneumonia.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Bailey Leigh, daughter Karen Leigh, grandson Max Gomez Leigh, daughter Tina Curran and husband Thomas Curran, grandson Alec DeToma. He is also survived by step-children Michelle Cordeiro, Christopher Cordeiro, Eric Cordeiro and 8 step-grandchildren, his first wife Susan Leigh Johnson, cousins Dick Littlefield, Roger Hatch, Ginny DiNatale, and Patricia Blanchard, his niece Kristi Payne Cook and nephew Leigh "Tiger" Payne. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Ethel Leigh of Quincy, and his sister Ruth Leigh Payne Davis.
Dave was raised in Quincy, MA and spent his high school years in Cocoa, FL. He played football for the Univ of Florida Gators and was a life-long fan. He had a varied career, but especially loved the ocean and his career as a Merchant Marine, working as a captain for Texaco and commanding private yachts. He enjoyed charter fishing and entered many tuna fishing competitions. Dave loved his animals, gardening, landscaping and nautical antiques. During the 1990's he served on the Town of Whitman MA Board of Appeals, and was a member of the Whitman New Fire Station Building Committee.
He and Carol moved to Orr's Island, ME in 2005 and loved their time there surrounded by the ocean; more recently they lived for 4 years in Norway ME, and now reside in Rutland VT.
