Dan McClure

Dan McClure

September 1, 1948 - July 24, 2020

Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Psalm 28:6-7 (New Living Translation)

Dan McClure, 71, of Athens, Georgia, went to be with his Creator on July 24, 2020 after some extensive health conditions. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.[a] All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT)

He was born to parents, Betty L. McClure and Ronald M. McClure, on September 1, 1948 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1966. He came to Athens to study at University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. While in Athens, Dan met Karen Schultz McClure of Athens and they were married in 1974. Together they raised 4 children: Ian, Lauren, Matt, Tyler.

Dan was a Photography Portrait Artist and Entrepreneur. He worked in the Photography Department at the Continuing Education Center at the University of Georgia, and he also traveled as a photographer with the UGA Bulldogs Football Team in the early 80's. After many years in the field of photography, Dan pursued Portait Photography and went on to build a successful portrait studio in Athens, McClure Studio. After 34 years, Dan retired his studio to begin a new career.

He was the proud owner of two Zaxby's Franchise Restaurants in Centerville and Norcross, GA. He often joked about going from the "photo business to the chicken business".

Dan had a love for people and business! He taught these skills to all four of his children and greatly encouraged each of them as they began to build their own businesses through the years.

After years of being known as the "Baby Whisperer" for his incredible ability to get expressions from all the babies and children he photographed, Dan was so proud to finally have grandkids of his own. Known to his grandkids, as "Pop Pop", he loved any chance to see and play with them. His spent countless hours and adventures always making them smile and giggle!

Dan was known for his infectious smile, signature laugh, sincere kindness and sharing with others his love for the Lord. He also loved to spend afternoons playing golf with his "Golf Buddies"; always many stories to follow. He loved to travel with his wife and daughter too. He was offered the opportunity to go on many amazing fishing adventures with his 3 sons and other trips with his "Guys".

He was preceded in death by:
Parents- Ronald L. and Betty McClure
Brothers- Frank and "Phil" McClure

Loved and supported by:
Wife- Karen Schultz McClure
Son- Ian and his wife Lauren "Lu" McClure,
with daughter, Ava and soon to arrive daughter, Emma
Daughter- Lauren (McClure) and her husband Todd Forrester
with daughter, London and son, Lincoln
Son- Matt and his wife Gabriella "Gabi" McClure
with new son, Max
Son- Tyler and his wife Jessica "JJ" McClure with son, Hudson
Brother- Ronald "Ronnie" McClure

The family will have a closed private family gathering in his honor.
Dan was loved and supported by so many amazing people throughout!
A "Celebration Memorial" for all will be held at Grace Fellowship in Watkinsville, GA in Dan's honor in the future. Information will be shared later in time.

Dan's lived his life by this Psalm...

Psalm 27:1-6 (NLT)
A psalm of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation-so why should I be afraid. The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. The one thing I ask of the Lord-the thing I seek most-is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord's perfections and meditating in his Temple. For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support research into Frontotemporal Dementia, an important mission to help find a cure for the specific dementia that has so greatly affected Dan's wife, Karen and her family members.

Please reference "In Memory of Dan McClure for FTD Research" on either method below:

Online:
http://alzheimers.emory.edu/support/donate-now.html

By Mail:
FTD research by Emory at Office of Gift Records
1762 Clifton Rd NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322

We enjoyed an extended visit with Dan about a year ago when we ran into him at Cracker Barrel on Scenic Highway in Snellville. Our visit was very sweet as we all talked with joy about our children and grandchildren.

Dan was a classy gentleman and a friend to all who knew him.
May his family and all who loved him be aware of God's presence and comfort.

    Love,

Dan was a loyal customer of mine at Photo Express during the pre-digital days of photography. We developed his film as well as a friendship over the course of 20 years. He was First Class all the way. My condolences to his wife (who I randomly met recently in Belk’s less than a month ago) and to his children.

We are so sorry that your Dad and our friend was taken from all of us who knew him and loved him. His infectious smile and personality were evident to all. His ability to make everyone feel comfortable was a beautiful gift from God.

Our thoughts of him are reflected through the scriptures contained in 2 Timothy 4:7-8. He fought the good fight, and indeed he kept the faith. His love for God and his family were paramount in his life, and he influenced so many through his dedication and faithfulness.

    We will miss him dearly.
